In a statement released on Tuesday, the Vice President and Coordinator of NUESA Zone D, Comrade Abobarin Olalekan, made it clear that the SHS had no authority to interfere in the leadership structure of the association.
“In reference to the memorandum released from Student House of Senate (SHS) of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) with reference number OOUSHS/0021 dated 22nd March, 2025, the above-named association hereby resolves as follows,” the statement read in part.
The association emphasized that it is the recognized students’ wing of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and that the OOU chapter falls under the jurisdiction of NUESA Southwest (Zone D).
“The SHS OOU is not under any authority to constitute a Caretaker executive for the NUESA OOU chapter,” the association said, urging engineering students at the university to ignore the directive.
It also reaffirmed that the legitimate leadership of the OOU chapter remains under its current president, saying, “The authentic and recognized NUESA executives are led by Jinadu Michael Mabayomije.”
NUESA Zone D noted that it was already aware of the ongoing dispute between the executives and the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of NUESA OOU and assured that it would “further its investigation into the crisis.”
