The National Association of Ijebu East Students on Monday submitted its constitution to the 10th Legislative Council of Ijebu East for legislative consideration.
The Leader of the House, Hon. Fasheyi Akindele, commended NAIES for its commitment to student affairs and assured the association of his support.
In a statement by the NAIES President, Comr. Ojikutu Abdul Azeez, he stated that the submission was a significant milestone in the association’s efforts to gain formal recognition.
The statement said, “It is with joy and relentless effort that we have reached this stage. Congratulations to all of us at NAIES, especially the Pathfinders, leaders, stakeholders, and my sincere appreciation to all our executives.”
He said the recognition would enable NAIES to establish chapters in tertiary institutions across Nigeria, allowing students from Ijebu East to engage in the association’s activities.
In an interview, he described NAIES as “a community-based student union that serves as the united voice of Ijebu East students, both residents and indigenes, prioritizing their interests.”
He said that NAIES aimed to become a leadership training ground for students while also fostering development in Ijebu East.
“Permit me to say this – ten years is too much for us to achieve the milestone of greatness we hope for. In the next five years, I see this association as a platform where students of Ijebu East across all institutions will align to speak with one voice for the development of their community,” he added.
He further stated that while he founded the association, it was brought to life with the support of mentors, colleagues, and friends.
“One person might have a dream, but without a team of achievers, that dream will not materialize. NAIES would not have been possible without the support of Comr. Babatunde Adekunle O’Strong, Hon. Remilekun Felix Badejo, Comr. Akpavie, Prof. Tom, and Comr. Diyaolu Elijah,”
Ojikutu described his Vice President, Comr. Samson Adeniran, as “one of the greatest influencers ensuring the success of NAIES.”
On the progress of the organization so far, Ojikutu mentioned that since its establishment, NAIES had awarded bursaries to 127 students, sponsored five students for O’Level examinations, and covered JAMB registration fees for 60 students.
He added that the association was working on a financial aid scheme to support students whose parents were not financially stable.
We have engaged with stakeholders, politicians, and philanthropists to secure support for students. We are still working on a new initiative that will provide financial aid to students in need”.
